Heartfulness meditation: a journey to inner harmony

holistichappiness90

One of the most popular mediation techniques in today’s fast-paced world is mindfulness but did you know that there also exists a technique called heartfulness? In today’s blogpost I want to tell you a bit more about this unique meditation technique, its benefits and some simple steps to help you practice heartfulness meditation.

What is heartfulness?

Heartfulness is a type of super-inclusive meditation that encourages you to tap into the innate wisdom, love and compassion of your heart. It’s been around for over one hundred years and more than a million people in more than hundred countries practice this kind of meditation – and these numbers are still growing at a fast pace all across the globe.

The heartfulness technique is rooted in the Raya Yoga tradition and it can be done alone or in a group. It’s a simple and methodical approach to meditation: rather than tuning in on your breath or repeating a mantra, you simply focus inward – on your heart – to cultivate inner strength and serenity.

Mind vs. heart

Mindfulness and heartfulness both help you connect with your inner self, achieve relaxation and enhance your mental clarity but they also have their differences:

  • While mindfulness meditation concentrates on developing present-moment awareness and non-judgmental observation of yourself, heartfulness meditation focuses on your heart as the central point of spiritual growth.

  • Mindfulness meditation primarily involves observing your breath, thoughts and bodily sensations while heartfulness meditation uses relaxation, meditation, cleaning and prayer as key components. Heartfulness meditation also incorporates “yogic transmission” where practitioners receive divine energy from a trainer to accelerate their journey toward self-realization and inner transformation.

  • Mindfulness meditation aims to increase self-awareness, reduce stress and improve mental well-being while heartfulness seeks to foster inner balance, joy and a deeper connection to your spiritual essence.

The unique benefits of heartfulness meditation

Both mindfulness and heartfulness meditation offer numerous and significant benefits but the heartfulness approach has some unique advantages that make it an ideal choice for everyone who’s seeking spiritual growth and inner transformation.

For example:

  • Heartfulness mediation helps you develop a deeper connection with you spiritual essence.

  • By focusing on your heart you can achieve a deeper sense of inner balance, peace and joy and a greater sense of purpose in life.

  • Heartfulness meditation offers a holistic approach to personal development and spiritual growth: it incorporates relaxation, meditation, cleaning and prayer.

8 simple steps to help you practice heartfulness meditation

  1. Find a calm and comfortable place in your home or a place where you can sit each day and meditate.

  2. Set aside twenty minutes for your “heart time”.

  3. Make sure you meditate at the same time daily.

  4. Sit comfortably with your hands and legs in a comfortable position. Just focus on feeling peaceful and relaxed.

  5. Gently close your eyes and tune into your heart. Imagine a source of light within it. This light represents love, purity and the essence of your soul.

  6. Slowly and steadily you’ll begin to feel a vibration and energy in your body.

  7. If your mind wanders, try to center it back towards the light in your heart.

  8. When you’ve completed your meditation, you can take a few moments to reflect on your experiences and on the insights you gained during your meditation.

Some people choose to end their practice with a prayer to express their gratitude for the experience and to seek guidance from their inner self or a higher power but it’s entirely up to you to decide if you want to end your meditation with or without such a prayer.
